bio

Michael Kutschbach is a contemporary artist based in Adelaide on Kaurna Yerta. His practice is seen as a set of encounters with materials in states of becoming, where play, haptics and intuition guide forms that emerge without fixed intention. Working across multiple media, he works with materials as active participants with the potential to shift the logic of the work. What results is less an object than a provisional system of things shaped by the contingencies that move through it.

Kutschbach’s works inhabit a space where the organic, the artificial and the speculative intersect. They behave like evolving ecologies, responding to conditions rather than resolving into stable forms. His role is to initiate situations in which materials act and exceed expectation, inviting viewers to attune to subtle transformations and to consider how matter, circumstance and imagination co-produce new possibilities.
